Today, people can keep up their active lifestyles well into older adulthood thanks to improvements in health care and technology. Despite these advancements, one major health challenge that remains in our society is stroke, which presents a huge barrier to enjoying longstanding life goals and social wellbeing. The heart and brain are intimately linked to stroke occurrence as we age, and new strategies are continually being developed to safely reduce risk. These strategies sometimes include the use of medication or lifestyle changes, and sometimes safely reducing risk involves using innovative medical device technology. In this in-person event, we describe how collaboration between multiple medical specialties, cutting-edge clinical research and a focus on the care experience have rapidly improved our ability to care for patients at Tampa General Hospital within our one-of-a-kind neuro-cardiac program.
