Mental Health First Aid
This Training will teach individuals how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
Description
Mental Health First Aid, known as the CPR of mental health, is a national certification through the National Council for Behavioral Health that has proven effective in helping people recognize signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental illnesses and/or addictions. This training is designed to raise awareness of the prevalence of mental health issues in the community, reduce the stigma and provide viable skills needed to address mental health challenges. The training will assist and empower participants to identify, understand, and respond to those who show signs of developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
Online pre-work (approximately 2 hours) is required. All sessions have an optional orientation to assist with pre-work. The remaining curriculum is instructor led and after completion, individuals must finish online post-work in order to receive their certification
The following sessions are instructor led and after completion of the instructor led portion, individuals must finish online post-work in order to receive their certification.
Registration is required. A minimum number of registrants and attendees who complete pre-work is required, or event may be rescheduled for a later date. The registration process is complex:
- Individual registers here
- TGH instructor sends invitation to individual to create MHFA Connect profile
- Individual creates profile
- TGH instructor registers individual for MHFA Class
- Individual completes pre-work (this can be done during orientation)
- Individual attends two instructor led session(s)
- TGH instructor marks completion in MHFA Connect
- Individual completes post-work on MHFA Connect
- Individual downloads certificate
